The European Circuit of the Bar is delighted and proud that their wonderful colleague and past leader, Hugh Mercer KC, has been elected by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to be the next UK Judge to sit in the European Court of Human Rights.
We know that Hugh will be a wise and wonderful judge, steeped as he is in knowledge of European Law and human rights jurisprudence. We know that he will treat his onerous responsibilities as a huge privilege to serve the populations of Council of Europe Countries. Hugh’s appointment inspires confidence in the rule of law at a tumultuous time.
