Alphalex Avocats, together with the European Circuit, is pleased to host a half-day seminar in the heart of London’s legal quarter at Middle Temple to explore and take stock of the evolving landscape of cross-border civil and criminal justice post-Brexit.
We are honoured to welcome Christopher Vajda, former UK Judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union, who will deliver the keynote introduction and set the tone for this high-level event.
Five years on from the hard Brexit from the EU which cut the UK off from using the private international law instruments of the EU and removed the UK from the zone of mutual trust between the national courts of the Union, what rules apply in civil and criminal litigation? How can practitioners ease the friction Brexit has created in cross-border disputes? What will be the effect of the entry into force of Hague 2019 in the UK on 1 July 2025?
• Developments in jurisdiction, recognition of judgments
• A comparative look at French and English pre-action procedures
• Is EU-UK judicial dialogue still alive?
• Does an end to automatic mutual trust mean automatic mutual distrust?
• What are the implications for cases involving the UK and EU sanctions regimes?
• Cross-border investigations
• Mutual assistance
• The future of the European Arrest Warrant
